Call for participation in one-day workshop

A one-day workshop on:
Mandates of the People’s Movement and Present Political Deadlock in Nepal

Overview:
Following the “12-point agreement” between the Seven-Party-Alliance (SPA) and Maoist insurgents, a people’s movement launched in April 2006 successfully installed the SPA in government with a mandate to solve all political issues including the decade long insurgency in the country. Ironically, five months on, the country continues to go through political limbos. The sluggish performance of the government is triggering widespread concerns at home and aboard. In this transition period, we strongly feel that further debates are necessary to help solve many controversial political issues on the one hand, and that the government and other concerned parties need to be warned off their mistakes on the other. Keeping this responsibility in mind, we are going to organise a one-day workshop with the following two-fold purposes:

1. Update our understanding on the present political situation in Nepal,
2. Present the outcome of the programme to the government of Nepal and other concerned
parties in order to make them know the Nepalese diaspora’s concerns and views on the
political developments in Nepal.
